from: Learning About Calisthenic Exercises and Their Importance

Calisthenics is the term used to refer to a category of physical exercises that are closely related to gymnastics. Calisthenic exercises are definitely some of the most physical and require the most flexibility, but also some of the most rewarding as well. For the most part all calisthenic exercises consist of a variety of simple movements, which are usually performed without weights or any other type of equipment.

The Basics

Although there are many different calisthenic exercises that can be performed, there are a few basic calisthenic exercises in particular that you should be aware of. Sit-ups are one of the most popular calisthenics, and they are very easy to perform as well. All you need to do for basic crunches is lie back on the floor with your knees bent and the bottoms of your feet flat on the floor.

Now you just lift your shoulders up and off of the floor by tightening your abdominal muscles and bringing your chest up closer to your knees. Now you just lower your back to the floor with a smooth movement, and repeat.

Another of the basic exercises here would be pull-ups, which you execute by grabbing an overhead bar of some sort using an overhand grip, which means that you have your palms facing forward. Make sure to keep your chin straight while you use your arms to pull yourself up until you are chin-level with the bar, and then slowly return to your starting position.

The most important thing here is that you do not rush but rather that you use a slow and controlled manner to take yourself up and down from the bar. This exercise primarily trains the lats or upper back muscles.

The Benefits

The benefits of calisthenic exercises are plenty. Take anaerobic calisthenics, like Yoga, which possesses the ability to loosen constitutional encumbrances through various kinds of vibrations and thermal differences which in turn works to speed up weight loss and help with muscle tone and metabolism overall.

This is a big deal, because this means that even when you are not actually working out, your body still has a faster metabolism and is therefore able to burn off calories quicker than before, and this is one of the key elements involved in faster and more long-term weight loss. There are many other types of exercise as well, and you should try to come up with a workout routine that involves a little bit of everything so that you can get the best results from your exercise possible.
