Types of Senior Fitness Exercises

Strength exercises builds muscles and also helps to increase one’s metabolism. This aids in keeping the blood sugar and weight low. These types of senior fitness exercises are usually done by those who are more athletic and are used to doing exercises when they were younger. You need to be aware of your physical capacities before starting any form of exercise or muscle stretching.

Another form of senior fitness exercises are the balance exercises. These are essential exercises that help older people maintain their balance and focus more on the legs. This helps to prevent falls and lessen the risk of imbalances. Sure footing and good balance is essential for older adults since they may not recover well enough if they have a fall. This extends your ability to walk by your own and to be independent from any walkers and canes.

Senior fitness exercises which are also good for older adults are stretching exercises. These help to maintain and promote supple muscles and well coordinated body movement in an older adult. These are not exercises which can increase your strength but hey can help to make you more flexible and less prone to muscle injuries. These forms of senior fitness exercises also promote faster muscle injury healing and well toned muscles.

Endurance exercises are also senior fitness exercises that are great for older adults. These are your typical endurance exercises that can stimulate increased heart rate and breathing during the duration of the exercise program or activity. These are usually in the form of brisk walking, jogging, biking, swimming and other activities that can make your heart rate go up at a reasonable level. For this type of senior fitness exercise, you need to go slow when you are just starting and gradually build your endurance.

There are many forms of exercises that are beneficial as senior fitness exercises. They can be helpful for older adults but care needs to be considered when starting an exercise regimen. The health of an individual needs to be checked before doing do in order to be aware of your status.
