from: The Importance of Stretching and Diet

It is really quite surprising just how many people are unaware of the significance and importance of proper stretching and diet. They really go hand in hand and whether you are a professional athlete or just a basic exerciser, it is crucial that you incorporate proper stretching and diet into your regular routine. This will not only help you to get more out of your workouts in general but more importantly will lessen your chances of straining or pulling any of your muscles.

Stretching

When it comes to stretching, there are a few major muscle groups in particular that you want to be sure to include. This includes the emispinalis capitis, trapezius, deltoid, teres minor, extensor digitorum, flexor carpi ulnaris, and more.

Stretching is a key part to any exercise program and it is important to perform the necessary stretches both before and after your workout especially if you have tight or injured muscles. Stretching before your workout helps to warm your body up and get it prepared for the task ahead while stretching after your workout helps by promoting better range of motion of your joints and improving your flexibility, balance and coordination.

One of the most important things to remember here is that with each stretch you perform you should always move in a slow, controlled manner and never push it too far. If you go past the point of a light tightening sensation then you are risking straining or pulling the muscle that you are stretching. As long as you take your time and move gently you should have no problems.

Diet

Before you start any diet it is important to quit any unhealthy habits that you may have such as excessive alcohol drinking and smoking. Then you want to make sure that you are getting plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains and at least six to eight glasses of water a day.

Mineral and vitamin supplements are also available, and you can find ones that are all-natural and completely safe to take.

Stretching and diet are both of serious importance to any healthy lifestyle. Without regular and proper stretching and diet, as you age your muscles are going to shorten and it will be more difficult for you to perform regular, everyday tasks. This is why it is so very important for everyone, children and adults alike, to incorporate a decent stretching and diet routine into their life.
